A Week in San Diego: Birds, Community, and What’s Next for Bushnell Outdoors

A Week in San Diego: Birds, Community, and What’s Next for Bushnell Outdoors A Week in San Diego: Birds, Community, and What’s Next for Bushnell Outdoors

If you made it to the San Diego Bird Festival this year, you already know the vibe. Field trips in the morning, excited conversations all day, and that feeling when someone spots a bird and everyone suddenly has binoculars up. If you didn’t make it, here’s what you missed and why we’re still smiling about it.

From Feb 25 to Mar 1, we set up in the Bayview Room at Marina Village on Mission Bay and spent the week doing our favorite thing: meeting people who get outside in all kinds of ways and helping them see a little more of it.

The best part: people didn’t just look. They tried.

We brought A-Series for hands on time ahead of April availability, and the conversations were exactly what you’d hope for. Less about specs on paper and more about real life questions like:

“When can I get it?”

“Which one is right for me?”

“Can you help me get these set up correctly?”

Once someone got dialed with fit, focus, and the basics, you could see the confidence click in. That’s the whole point.

What everyone gravitated toward

Two models kept coming up as favorites.

A5 became the “wow, this feels serious” choice when people wanted extra performance and a premium experience.

A3 was the “I’d actually carry this all the time” pick for people who want something capable that stays easy to bring along.

We also saw interest in the A1 and A3 Monocular as always with you optics. Easy to throw in a daypack, glovebox, or travel bag when you just want to be ready.

The surprise hit: Sunset Orange

Before anyone asked about features, a lot of people noticed one thing first. These look good. The Limited Edition Sunset Orange colorway pulled people in from across the booth and started conversations instantly, which is exactly what great gear design should do.

The extras people were genuinely excited about

A fun part of the week was seeing how many conversations started with the accessories.

Straps: People were excited to see them and asked about additional styles and options. More to come.

Cases: People loved hearing that a case is included with the A3, A3 Monocular, and A5. That kind of ready out of the box detail matters.

Honestly, the feedback all week was energizing. It’s a good signal when people are not just interested in the optic. They are interested in the full experience.

Community moments we’re grateful for

One of the highlights of the week was sponsoring a keynote by Makeda “Dread” Cheatom with more than 250 attendees. We also spent time with community leaders and creators who are helping more people feel welcome outdoors, whether they are lifelong birders or brand new to it.

What’s next

We captured a ton of photo and video from the festival and from San Diego life outside the festival too. Water, sun, travel, and all the reasons people choose to get outside. We are currently working on a full recap video and image set and will share it soon.
